We’ve Never Been Here Before

The first light sparkles, new crystals
of thick night-frost
, the virgin unlived day.

A tiny wren lifts her jubilations
into the vastness of the morning air.
Strokes of winter sun
touch the opened page of ancient Words.

But the Spirit himself
kindles them: strikes a new fire
laughing in the ashes
of our wintered hearts
